The Naval Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday witnessed a significant milestone as seven officers of the Nigerian Navy were decorated with their new ranks of Lieutenant Commander in a colourful ceremony known in naval tradition as the “Shipping of Stripes.”
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was represented at the event by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdullahi Dewu, who commended the officers for their unwavering professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty.
Admiral Dewu, while congratulating the newly promoted officers and their spouses, emphasized that the elevation was not only a recognition of personal effort but also a testament to the vital support provided by their families. He noted that the stability at home front enables the officers to remain focused on their responsibilities.
“Today’s ceremony is a celebration of hard work, integrity, professionalism, and perseverance,” Rear Admiral Dewu said. “Your promotion is not just recognition of past achievements but a call to greater responsibility as Lieutenant Commanders in the Nigerian Navy. You must redouble your efforts in our collective mission to combat insecurity and maritime crime.”

The event was witnessed by family members, senior naval officers, branch chiefs, directors, and other well-wishers. The ceremony concluded with a photo session and a reception in honour of the newly promoted officers.
