The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in partnership with the Borno State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency, has intensified efforts to accelerate digital transformation in Nigeria’s North-East with a major stakeholders engagement held in Maiduguri.
The programme, known as the NITDA–Borno State IT Stakeholders Engagement and Ecosystem Development Programme, convened key players from government, private sector organisations, academia, innovation hubs, and the tech community to explore strategies for building a resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem in the region.
With the theme “Creating Opportunities, Breaking Boundaries Towards Digitalisation and Entrepreneurial Evolution,” the engagement focused on fostering collaboration as a key driver for innovation, economic growth, and expanded access to digital services.
Representing the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, the Director of Zonal Office Coordination, Babajide Ajayi, described digitalisation as a critical pathway to economic diversification and long-term prosperity. He noted that the growing role of technology in governance, business operations, education, and financial services underscores the urgency of equipping citizens with relevant digital skills.
According to Ajayi, strengthening digital competencies will not only improve employability but also empower entrepreneurs to develop scalable solutions tailored to local challenges, particularly in underserved regions.
Stakeholders at the event also stressed the importance of sustained partnerships, investment in digital infrastructure, and targeted capacity-building initiatives to drive innovation and inclusive growth. They noted that a coordinated approach among public and private actors is essential to unlocking the full potential of the digital economy in Borno State and across the North-East.
The initiative reflected NITDA’s broader commitment to deepening Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, promoting innovation, and ensuring that no region is left behind in the country’s ongoing technological evolution.
