NISWASEC Marks World Public Relations Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Strategic Communication

The Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation (NISWASEC) has commemorated the 2026 World Public Relations Day, reaffirming its commitment to strategic communication as a key driver of effective public service delivery and sustainable engagement with stakeholders.

The event, held at the Corporation’s Conference Room in Minna, was organised by the Public Relations Unit under the leadership of the Public Relations Manager, Zainab Yunusa, with the theme, “The Golden Age of Strategic Public Relations.” It attracted members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), management and staff of NISWASEC, communication professionals, and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NISWASEC, Engr. Gimba D. Yisa, commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for promoting professionalism and ethical standards in public relations practice. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Corporation and the Institute, noting that strategic communication remains vital in keeping the public informed about the Corporation’s activities and essential water supply services.

Yisa also highlighted the commitment of the Niger State Government under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to improving access to potable water through the rehabilitation and expansion of water infrastructure and other interventions aimed at ensuring sustainable water supply across the state.

In his address, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Niger State Chapter, Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi, described public relations as a strategic profession that enhances credibility, builds public confidence, and strengthens institutional reputation. He commended the management of NISWASEC, particularly the Public Relations Manager, Zainab Yunusa, for successfully organising the celebration and urged communication practitioners to register with the Institute to deepen professionalism in the field.

Also speaking, the Director of Information in the Niger State Ministry of Information, Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim underscored the importance of professionalism in information management and communication. He maintained that membership of the NIPR remained essential for Public Relations, Information, and Media Officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to promote ethical and effective communication.

As part of activities marking the occasion, the NIPR Chairman decorated the Managing Director of NISWASEC with the official NIPR muffler in recognition of his support for the public relations profession and strategic communication.

The NIPR delegation later paid courtesy visits to the Niger State Commissioner and the Head of Service, where they were also decorated with commemorative NIPR mufflers. During the visits, the Institute appealed to the state government to encourage all Public Relations, Information, and Media Officers in MDAs to register with the NIPR in line with the provisions of the NIPR Act.

The celebration featured goodwill messages, the decoration of dignitaries, and a group photograph, ending with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to strengthen strategic communication and uphold professionalism in public relations practice across Niger State.
