The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Media Leadership and Civil Engagement Award by Emporium Reporters in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism, media development, and professional leadership.
The award was presented at the maiden edition of the Emporium Leadership Lecture and Awards 2026, held at the Buhari Bello Auditorium, National Human Rights Commission Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, as part of activities marking the organisation’s 10th anniversary.
Organised by Royalprince Media Services, publishers of Emporium Reporters and Emporium Magazine, the event was themed “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media’s Role in Deepening Nigeria’s Democracy.” It brought together prominent personalities from the media, government, civil society and the private sector to examine the evolving role of digital journalism in promoting accountability, transparency and democratic governance.
Presenting the award, the organisers described Comrade Ike as a committed and exemplary media professional whose leadership has strengthened the journalism profession and advanced the welfare of journalists in the Federal Capital Territory. They said her unwavering dedication to ethical journalism, advocacy for press freedom and commitment to professionalism have earned her widespread respect within and beyond the media industry.
Receiving the award, Comrade Ike expressed gratitude to Emporium Reporters for the honour, describing it as a recognition of the collective efforts of journalists working tirelessly to uphold the integrity and credibility of the profession.
She commended the organisation for sustaining credible journalism over the past decade and for providing a platform that encourages constructive dialogue on issues critical to Nigeria’s democratic development.
The NUJ FCT Chairman stressed the importance of factual, balanced and responsible reporting in an era increasingly driven by digital media and citizen journalism. She noted that while technology has expanded access to information, media practitioners must remain committed to the principles of accuracy, objectivity, fairness and accountability to sustain public trust.
Comrade Ike also called on journalists and other media stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in combating misinformation, disinformation and unethical practices capable of eroding the credibility of the media.
The Emporium Leadership Lecture and Awards was instituted to celebrate excellence, honour individuals making significant contributions in their respective fields, and stimulate meaningful conversations on governance, democracy and national development.
As Emporium Reporters celebrated a decade of media service, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting credible journalism, recognising excellence and fostering informed public discourse in Nigeria.
The event featured keynote presentations, panel discussions on the future of digital journalism, and the recognition of distinguished individuals whose contributions have positively impacted society and the media profession.
