NYSC clears air on demand for WAEC Result before registration in Orientation Camp

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in a statement signed by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations, has explained rationale behind demand for WAEC Result before the registration in the Orientation Camp.

The statement read;

“The Management of the National Youth Sevice Corps has observed a “SAVE OUR SOUL” letter, purportedly written by a concerned citizen of Nigeria, on behalf of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs), in which he questioned the motive behind the demand and sighting of WAEC certificate as a prerequisite condition to register for service.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the requirements for registration of PCMs at the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide are as follows:

a. Institution’s identity card;

b. Statement of Result/Degree Certificate;

c. Call-up Letter; and

d. COVID-19 clearance

“However, WAEC Result may be demanded by NYSC Officers to ascertain the date of birth of a Prospective Corps Member with doubtful appearance, as NECO Certificate does not have the inscription of age of the candidate.

“Be that as it may, there are other alternatives such as: Voter’s Card, Driver’s Licence, National Identity Card which can be presented in the absence of WAEC Result.

“Contrary to the false claim that the NYSC has not provided information on the foregoing online, the Scheme’s social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, among others all bear that information; in addition to briefing of students at the Corps Producing Institutions by NYSC Officers purposed to equip PCMs with relevant information concerning National Youth Service Corps.

“We are very passionate about issues that relate to all the prospective corps members and will do everything within the stipulated guidelines to make their registration stress free.

“Consequently, the write-up making the rounds on the social media is a figment of the writer’s imagination and should be discarded”.
