The Federal Government has intensified efforts to address Nigeria’s out-of-school children crisis and improve foundational learning through the 2026 Basic Education in Nigeria Bootcamp (BEN-B)/Summit scheduled to hold in Jos, Plateau State.
Organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with development partners and the Plateau State Government, the three-day event will take place from April 28 to 30 at Crispan Hotel, Jos. The bootcamp is expected to bring together policymakers, education administrators and key stakeholders to develop practical strategies for enhancing access to inclusive and quality basic education.
The initiative will be led by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad. The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, is billed to deliver the keynote address.
With a focus on inclusive education, the bootcamp aims to build on gains recorded in previous editions, particularly in the areas of community learning centres, open schooling systems and improved education data tracking. It is also expected to drive evidence-based implementation across states.
The programme aligned with ongoing federal reforms such as the Nigeria Education Data Initiative (NEDI), Literacy Improvement programmes, and the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), all geared towards ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with states and partners to close learning gaps and strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy nationwide.
