The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commenced a four-day training programme for staff of the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) at Idu Station, Abuja, as part of preparations for the resumption of operations on the corridor.
The training, which run from Monday to Thursday, included three days of onboard practical sessions simulating real-life operational scenarios. It fulfilled an earlier commitment by the NRC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, to ensure that staff are adequately equipped before train services resume.
Declaring the programme open, Dr. Zang James, Director of Corporate Planning, who represented the MD, stressed the importance of safety and professionalism. He said future sessions would be organized on a departmental basis to further strengthen operational efficiency.
Also in attendance were senior NRC officials including Mr. Paschal Nnorli, representing the Director of Human Resources; Engr. Adesegud Ogunade, Deputy Director CE/NE; Mr. Adediran Adedamola, Deputy Director Health and Safety; Engr. Monday Adejo, Assistant Director (Mechanical); and Mr. Abdulasisi Mohammed, Operations Manager, AKTS, alongside Heads of Departments.
Mr. Nnorli, in his remarks, urged staff to uphold discipline, teamwork, and continuous learning, warned that management would not tolerate operational breaches. Technical sessions led by Mr. Adediran and Engr. Ogunade focused on safety practices, hazard control, and strict adherence to operational handbooks.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Engr. Adejo, who commended management for prioritizing staff development and assured that the knowledge gained would translate into safer and more efficient train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna route.
