The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has distanced itself from a planned protest reportedly being organised by a group of individuals identified as “Concerned Staff” within the National Assembly.
In an official statement signed by PASAN Chairman, Comrade Sunday Sabiyyi, the union categorically denied any involvement in the planned demonstration, which was being circulated via a WhatsApp platform known as “NASS FORUM.”
According to the union, the grievances cited by the unnamed group related to staff welfare issues which PASAN claimed have been largely resolved through its ongoing engagement with the management of the National Assembly. The union also revealed that it has constituted a committee to address any remaining concerns or “grey areas.”
“We strongly advise all PASAN members to remain at their duty posts and go about their legitimate business within the complex,” Sabiyyi said in the statement. “We do not support or condone any form of protest or picketing that disrupts the functioning of the National Assembly.”
PASAN emphasized the importance of maintaining order, discipline, and professionalism within the workplace, warning that any unauthorized action could tarnish the image of the legislative institution.
The union also urged the management of the National Assembly to investigate the source of the protest plans and take necessary steps to ensure normalcy within the premises. It further called for clear communication from management to all staff, reinforcing the need for decorum and adherence to official channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful resolution of staff-related issues, PASAN stressed that it remained open to dialogue and constructive engagement with management for the collective interest of all staff.
