The Renewed Hope Consolidation Mandate 2027 has strongly dismissed claims attributed to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, suggesting that the North is considering forcing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down before the 2027 presidential election.
In a press statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Odere, the group described Lawal’s remarks as “outlandish, baseless, and reeking of bitterness.” The statement accused Lawal of misrepresenting the North and attempting to stir political tension with what it called an “imaginative and twisted” narrative.
“A self-respecting public personality like Mr. Lawal should have qualified the statement as his personal wish and not hide behind a North that has now acquired different personalities for effect,” the statement read.
The group emphasized that Tinubu was duly elected in 2023 with the highest number of votes and a constitutionally required spread, making any suggestion of forcing him out of office before the 2027 election absurd.
They further argued that Lawal’s comments indirectly acknowledge President Tinubu’s growing popularity and the likelihood of his re-election, stating that his achievements by 2027 would be undeniable.
“It is a pity that despite his longevity in the political space, Mr. Lawal still does not have the presence of mind to correctly read the tea leaves that President Tinubu would do a second term by winning big this time around,” the group said.
The statement concluded with a call for more rational political discourse, urged Lawal to exercise better judgment in his public commentary.
