The Research Institutes Games Association of Nigeria (RIGAN) has ushered in a new era of leadership, following the successful election and inauguration of its new executive council at the Nigeria Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) in Ilorin.
The newly constituted National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to steer the association towards greater achievements in promoting sports, wellness, and inter-institutional cooperation among research institutes across Nigeria.
Professor Feranmi F. Owolade of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, was re-elected as RIGAN President, alongside other key officials including Engr. Amina of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) as Vice President; Mr. Tabe Amos of the National Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) as Secretary; and Mr. Adamu Mohammed of NIHORT as Assistant Secretary. Comrade David Alu of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) as Financial Secretary; Mrs. Bisi Azeez of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) as Treasurer; and Mr. Olayode Abdurasaq of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) as Public Relations Officer.
The inauguration ceremony was immediately followed by a historic first meeting of the National Executive Council, attended by 51 council members representing research institutes from across the country. The meeting served as a strategic platform to deliberate on policies and initiatives that would enhance sports development within research institutions.
RIGAN, comprising 35 federal research and development institutes under various ministries, is dedicated to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition among staff. Its sports initiatives also aim to strengthen collaboration, boost morale, and improve productivity in the research and development sector.
In his address, President Owolade expressed optimism about the future of RIGAN under the new leadership, emphasizing the need for unity, commitment, and innovation to achieve the association’s goals. He also commended the host institution and the local organizing committee for their hospitality and efficient coordination of the event.
With the new leadership officially taking off, RIGAN look ahead to an era of renewed energy and impactful sports development across Nigeria’s research institutions.
