TDF: Trump’s Commendation Validates Tinubu’s Anti-Terrorism Efforts

The Democratic Front (TDF) has described the reported commendation by United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts as a strong endorsement of the administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring peace across the country.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group said the message from the American President was a significant affirmation of President Tinubu’s determination to win the war against terrorism and strengthen national security.

According to the group, the commendation came at a time when the Tinubu administration has intensified efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other security challenges while promoting regional peace and stability in West Africa.

TDF argued that the development also reinforced its long-held position that earlier threats allegedly made by President Trump against Nigeria were influenced by misinformation and negative propaganda aimed at undermining the country’s image and diplomatic relations with the United States.

The group commended President Tinubu for what it described as his diplomatic maturity and restraint in handling the situation, adding that his administration’s engagement with the US had helped strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the area of security.

It further stated that the growing Nigeria-US military collaboration, especially in intelligence sharing and precision operations, had significantly weakened terrorist camps operating around Nigeria’s borders with Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic.

According to TDF, the collaboration has contributed to a noticeable reduction in security breaches while also improving the intelligence capabilities of Nigeria’s security and defence forces under President Tinubu’s leadership as Commander-in-Chief.

The group maintained that the reported commendation from President Trump was another indication of what it described as the unprecedented progress recorded by the Tinubu administration in addressing insecurity since assuming office in May 2023.

It also claimed that the development would undermine attempts by opposition politicians to use insecurity as a campaign issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

TDF urged Nigerians to reject what it called efforts by opposition figures to politicise the country’s security challenges and instead support ongoing measures aimed at sustaining peace and stability nationwide.
