The Tinubu Consensus Network has applauded the nomination of Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as minister from Oyo State, describing the move by Bola Ahmed Tinubu as timely and strategic.
The President had on Thursday forwarded Tegbe’s name to the National Assembly as a ministerial nominee to replace Adebayo Adelabu, who recently stepped down from his role as Minister of Power to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group, through its National President, Gideon Oche Onazi, and Secretary, Muhammad Kudu, said the appointment represents “a good step in the right direction,” expressing confidence in Tegbe’s ability to deliver both politically and administratively.
The group argued that Tegbe’s elevation would significantly boost the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, noting that his influence and grassroots mobilization capacity could translate into increased electoral support for the party.
“He has done it before, even as a private citizen. Now that he is set to serve as a minister, we expect even greater impact. The votes from Oyo State will swell for our President and all APC candidates,” the statement noted.
The group recalled Tegbe’s role in the 2023 general elections, particularly his financial and structural support in mobilizing party stakeholders across his local government and beyond, despite the state being controlled by the opposition.
According to the group, Tegbe had previously collapsed his 2019 governorship campaign structure into the APC support base, directing members to work for the party’s overall success—a move it described as instrumental to APC’s performance in the state.
Beyond politics, the group highlighted Tegbe’s extensive professional background, portraying him as an accomplished technocrat with over three decades of experience in consulting, fiscal policy, and institutional reforms. His previous role as a senior partner at KPMG, where he led advisory services across Africa, was cited as evidence of his competence in governance and large-scale transformation initiatives.
The statement also referenced his involvement in key national sectors, including engagements with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, underscoring his versatility.
Before his nomination, Tegbe served as Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating development cooperation and investment initiatives between Nigeria and China, while also chairing Nigeria’s tax implementation committee.
The group concluded that Tegbe’s appointment comes at a critical time for Nigeria’s economy, particularly as the country grapples with persistent electricity challenges affecting industrial growth and investor confidence.
