President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly made up his mind to replace the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, following her involvement in the alleged financial misappropriation tearing the ministry apart.
A reliable source in the Presidency according to Dailytimes revealed that the President is not giving any chance and may not wait until the end of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s final report on the ongoing investigation into the matter.
“The President is resolute in fighting corruption, and Edu’s potential replacement is viewed as a sacrificial lamb to underscore this commitment,” the source said.
Interest groups, politicians, and opposition parties have united in calling for Edu’s dismissal over suspected illegal financial transactions, prompting widespread demands for thorough investigations by notable lawyers, SERAP, and other concerned groups.
Edu’s attempts to secure an audience with President Tinubu have faced obstacles, as she continues reporting to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The scandal involving Edu unfolded against the backdrop of her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, facing a probe over alleged corruption in the handling of N37.1 billion social intervention funds during her tenure.
President Tinubu’s swift action in suspending Edu has earned commendation from many Nigerians, including the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, who urges an impartial probe into the allegations.
