The United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESC), has awarded several Nigerians with the UN Humanitarian award for their inexplicable sacrificial humanitarian acts.
Speaking at the event to mark this year’s induction into International Humanitarian Hall of Fame in Abuja, the UNESC African Chairman, Hon. Dr.Williams Ijoma, said the award is aimed at encouraging them to do more for Nigerians.
He further inducted the Force PRO, Frank and others into the UN International Hall of fame.
Other inductees included, the Amayanabo of Brass Kingdom, HRM Alfred Dieta Spiff, Etsu Patigi, HRM Alhaji Ibrahim Bologi, Wife of Kogi Governor, Rashidat Yahaya Bello, Wife of the governor of Kaduna state, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, Ambassador Akinremi Alade Bolaji, Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey Shebarshin and Al-Hassan Yakmut,Dr. Sylvester Obi, Dr. Naomi Etitinma Ijoma, Frank Mbah, Dr. Okafor Okoreaffia and Mr Abdul Nasser Hajaig.
UNESC Africa Chairman noted that the reward is aimed at encouraging the awardees to do more for Nigerians, he further inducted them into the UN International Hall of fame.
“This is just our little way of rewarding them in the open for their inexplicable sacrificial humanitarian acts nationwide. We have been watching them from far and near and observed in so many occasions, how some if the risked their lives in making sure that Nigerians all over receive the necessary help when their lives are endangered.”
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCO), is one of the six principal organ of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organization, specifically in regards to the fifteen specialized agencies, the eight functional commissions, and the five regional commissions under its jurisdiction.
The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – Economic, Social and Environmental.
It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals.
Earlier in his speech, Ijoma said the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESC) agenda in Africa is to promote empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration, full employment integration and decent work for all through education.
He added that the organization intends to achieve this agenda through sensitization, trainings and seminars, workshops and financial empowerment.
