The Niger State, Nigeria Government has announced significant security gains in Shiroro Local Government Area following coordinated counter-banditry operations by combined security forces in parts of the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Nuhu Nana, disclosed that sustained clearance operations involving the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups have continued to yield positive results in affected communities, including Bagna and Yelwa.
According to confirmed security reports, a total of 110 bandits were neutralised during separate engagements as the criminals reportedly attempted to retreat under sustained pressure from advancing troops.
The breakdown of the incidents is as follows: 47 bandits were neutralised in Lantan Village (Erena Ward), 21 in Lakupe (Kwaki Ward), 16 in Luwidna (Kwaki Ward), 20 in Farin Kasa (Allawa Ward), and 6 in Rafin Barden Dawaki (Kurebe Ward).
The government described the outcomes as a reflection of the effectiveness and resilience of ongoing joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring normalcy across Shiroro LGA.
However, authorities also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of personnel and civilians during the operations. Fourteen vigilante members, including the Commander in Bagna, as well as two civilians, including a woman, were confirmed killed. The state government extended condolences to the bereaved families, describing their sacrifices as courageous and patriotic.
While security operations continue, residents have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence.
The state government assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that additional reinforcements and strategic measures have been deployed to sustain operational momentum and prevent further attacks.
Hon. Nuhu Nana reiterated that the situation remains under close monitoring, calling for calm, unity, and sustained community support in ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace across Shiroro and surrounding areas.
