The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for signing into law the bills establishing three new federal tertiary institutions in the South East region.
The newly established institutions include the Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State; the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item Bende, Abia State; and the Federal University, Okigwe, Imo State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio described the development as a milestone in educational advancement and regional development, stating that the institutions would not only provide access to quality education but also help improve healthcare delivery and promote research in the region.
The Senate President praised Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, for sponsoring two of the bills, and also commended Senator Patrick Ndubueze, the main sponsor of one of the bills, as well as other key legislators including the Deputy Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and the Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu.
“I applaud President Tinubu for his inclusive leadership and demonstrated commitment to the development of the South East region, and his efforts to heal the deep-seated wounds of the past,” Akpabio stated.
According to him, the establishment of the institutions will go a long way in addressing the long-held concerns of distrust and socio-economic marginalization felt by the people of the region.
He also called on the people of the South East to continue to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that such support would ensure more democratic dividends flow to the region.
“The significant support of leaders and lawmakers in ensuring the passage of these very important bills is noteworthy and commendable,” Akpabio added.
He urged Ndigbo to strategically align with the current administration to consolidate gains and promote regional development.
