The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Evangelist Uma Ukpai, the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who passed away at the age of 80.
In a heartfelt tribute, Senator Akpabio, who hailed the late Evangelist as “God’s General,” said Ukpai’s life and ministry were marked by unwavering dedication to spreading the gospel of Christ and making significant contributions to his community. The renowned international evangelist, who was based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, spent decades preaching across the globe and guiding countless individuals to faith.
Akpabio described Ukpai’s legacy as one of “impact, inspiration, and hope,” highlighting not only his evangelistic work but also his tireless efforts in improving the lives of others through education and healthcare initiatives. The late Reverend established schools and medical facilities aimed at addressing the needs of his local community, leaving a lasting imprint on both his spiritual and social environments.
“Today we mourn the passing of God’s General, Evangelist Uma Ukpai,” Akpabio wrote. “His transition has left the body of Christ and humanity in a profound state of sadness, but we take solace in knowing that Heaven has gained another angel to watch over the flock of God.”
The Senate President also shared his condolences with the family of the deceased, particularly Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, his wife, and the entire Evangelistic Association. “Though Evangelist Uma Ukpai has left us physically, his legacies live on in the hearts of many,” Akpabio said. “His journey may have ended, but his legacy of faith and service will continue to inspire future generations.”
