The Media Office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a strong-worded statement calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in his son, Seyi Tinubu, over his alleged involvement in acts of political intimidation and abuse of power.
The statement, signed by Atiku’s spokesperson, Mr. Paul Ibe, followed serious allegations made by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Isah, who claimed to have been physically assaulted, abducted, and induced by individuals linked to the President’s son.
Describing the situation as “disturbing and dangerous,” the Atiku Media Office condemned what it called a troubling attempt by the First Family to consolidate political loyalty through coercion, violence, and fear.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must urgently rein in his family members, particularly his son, Seyi Tinubu, who appears determined to purchase political loyalty for his father by any means necessary, including coercion, violence, and intimidation,” the statement read.
It added that such actions, if true, represented a serious affront to democratic norms and civil liberties. The statement also raised concern over insinuations that elements of the nation’s security architecture may have been compromised under the influence of the President’s son.
“Had this incident ended fatally, it would have joined the list of atrocities committed by criminal elements. That it is allegedly tied to the President’s own son makes it even more horrifying,” the statement continued.
The Atiku Media Office stressed that Nigeria is a democratic republic and not a monarchy, warned against the subjugation of civil society groups like NANS through state-enabled intimidation.
It also dismissed claims that linked Comrade Isah’s actions to political collaboration with Atiku Abubakar. According to the media office, the former Vice President’s recent meeting with Comrade Isah centered solely on educational development and student welfare, including discussions related to institutions founded by Atiku, such as the American University of Nigeria and AUN Academy.
“The attempts to drag former Vice President Atiku Abubakar into this scandal by alleging a political alliance with Comrade Isah are baseless, malicious, and desperate,” the statement noted.
The Media Office called for an independent investigation into the allegations raised by the NANS President and issued a stern warning that any harm to him would not be tolerated.
“We issue a clear warning: nothing must happen to this young man. Any harm to him will not go unnoticed or unchallenged. Nigerians deserve truth, accountability, and a leadership that respects the rule of law,” the statement declared.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Atiku Abubakar’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and using education as a foundation for national development.
