In a dramatic turn of events that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP vice presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
The defection followed an enlarged meeting of PDP stakeholders held in Asaba on Wednesday, where it was unanimously agreed to collapse the entire PDP structure in the state into the APC.
Announcing the decision at a press conference, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, flanked by pioneer PDP leader Senator James Manager, disclosed that Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to officially receive Governor Oborevwori and the “PDP family” into the APC fold in Asaba next Monday.
This development marks a significant realignment in Delta’s political terrain and could have far-reaching implications for future elections in the state.
