President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a decisive step toward contesting the 2027 presidential election after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
The forms, reportedly valued at ₦100 million, were purchased on his behalf by a member of House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke during a ceremony held Tuesday in Abuja. The APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, formally presented the documents, marking the official commencement of the party’s nomination process.
Faleke, who also heads the Tinubu Support Groups, said the move underscored growing backing within the ruling party as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already outlined the election timetable. Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Assembly elections will follow on February 6, 2027.
Party primaries are expected to hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026, with campaigns for presidential and National Assembly seats set to begin on August 19, 2026.
Tinubu’s early move positioned him prominently within the APC as political alignments and potential challengers begin to take shape ahead of the party’s primaries.
