The Niger State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NSITDEA) has successfully connected over 153 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to high-speed fibre optic internet, in a major step toward advancing digital governance in the state.
Director-General of the agency, Suleiman Isah, disclosed that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernise public service delivery and strengthen administrative efficiency through technology.
He explained that the project has created a unified digital backbone across government institutions, enabling faster communication, seamless data exchange, and improved coordination among MDAs.
According to Isah, prior to the intervention, many government agencies relied on fragmented and unreliable internet systems, which hindered effective service delivery and slowed administrative processes.
“With the deployment of fibre optic infrastructure, Niger State is now positioned for real-time governance and integrated service delivery,” he said.
The DG further revealed that the project was driven by forward-looking policies of the state government, including the approval of zero Right-of-Way charges for fibre optic deployment. He noted that this policy has attracted private sector participation and accelerated broadband expansion across the state.
Industry observers say the initiative is already delivering measurable impact, with improvements recorded in data management, inter-agency collaboration, and cost efficiency, as MDAs now operate on a shared digital infrastructure.
Beyond the connectivity drive, Isah highlighted NSITDEA’s broader mandate, which included the digitalisation of government services, promotion of ICT skills, and the development of a robust digital economy ecosystem.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure to underserved areas, deepening digital inclusion, and sustaining reforms aimed at positioning Niger State as a leading hub for technology-driven governance in Nigeria.
The development underscored the state government’s increasing investment in digital infrastructure as a key driver of transparency, accountability, and economic growth.
