The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has expressed profound gratitude to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, for their warm reception of Pelumi Nubi,the London-to-Lagos solo traveler, upon her arrival in Lagos.
In her speech at the welcoming ceremony, Dabiri-Erewa commended Pelumi Nubi and her family for their unwavering faith and resilience throughout the journey. She acknowledged the pivotal role played by Governor Sanwo-Olu and the University of Lagos in extending a gracious welcome to Pelumi upon her return to Nigeria.
Reflecting on the journey, the NiDCOM boss emphasized the integral involvement of the Commission and highlighted the collaborative efforts of the community and the Nigerian Embassies in providing support and assistance during challenging times.
“We are immensely proud of Pelumi Nubi’s courageous solo journey from London to Lagos, and we commend her determination to prove that nothing is impossible with determination and hard work.
She reiterated NiDCOM’s commitment to supporting and empowering Nigerians in the Diaspora, emphasizing the importance of fostering a strong bond between Nigerians at home and abroad.
Pelumi, a Nigeria-British citizen and travel content creator, did a solo drive from London to Lagos in 68 days..
While speaking, Governor Sanwoolu said “I welcome you, Pelumi, officially, on behalf of 25 million plus residents of Lagos and the entire country.
“We want to say how truly proud we are to be associated with you.
“You cannot imagine how transformative this is going to be for you, welcome to your new world.
“We are not only going to have you signpost Lagos where it should be, but also have your family name written right at the center of it; looking at your experience and journey.”
And speaking while receiving her at a massive reception At the University of Lagos, Vice Chancellor Folashade Ogunsola described her as an inspiration to all, particularly the younger ones.
She departed London on January 31, and arrived in Nigeria through the Seme border on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
