A non-profit organisation, Ifekowajo Progressive Youth Council (IPYC), has sensitised youths in ifekowajo,Yewa areas of Ogun State on the devastating effects of drugs to their health and future.
The sensitisation was part of activities to mark the 2023 national youths Day.
In his remark,President of IPYC, Comrade Akinyemi Quadri Omosanjo , noted that the body decided to enlight youths, students and others who had become entrenched in substance abuse without minding its effects.
He said: “Drug abuse is one of the issues to be taken seriously in every sector before it swallows up our young people.”
Yewa sons and daughters who have made a mark in their respective education cum impactive drive across Nigeria, took turns in sharing their experience so that the youths will hear from the perspectives of literates and those who have traveled far and wide .
The Guest Lecturer, an Associate Professor from Owo town in Ifekowajo, Dr Oluranti Samuel, stressed the need for individuals, parents and the government to critically examine the issue of social vices and drug abuse which he described as the “oga patapata among them. “
Awards presentation
The highlight of the event was an interactive session with seasoned panelists where the moderator, Dr Olayode Abdurasaq Oluwole, used participatory learning and Action (PLA) tool to ensure the messages were passed as intended to the youths.
Schools from across Ifekowajo were hosted to a quiz and debate competition with awards, cash gifts and prizes given to various winners.
