The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has applauded the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) for its unwavering support to police officers and their families, describing the association as a vital pillar in the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare architecture.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual General Convention of POWA held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, the IGP said the association had evolved beyond being a platform for spouses into a formidable force for humanitarian service, family support and community development.
Disu congratulated the newly inaugurated National President of POWA, Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, describing the convention as the first major gathering under her leadership and expressing confidence that the association would consolidate on its legacy of service.
He commended POWA’s interventions in supporting widows, children of fallen officers, vulnerable families and members of the police community, noting that such efforts complement the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare programmes.
The IGP acknowledged the sacrifices made by wives of police officers, stressing that the demanding nature of policing often requires officers to spend long hours away from home under dangerous conditions.
“Behind every dedicated officer is a family that provides strength, encouragement and stability,” he said, appreciating members of POWA for their understanding and unwavering support.
Disu urged members to remain worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force by upholding integrity, discipline, humility and compassion in their dealings with society.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to improving the welfare of officers and their families through enhanced support for education, healthcare, skills acquisition, women’s empowerment and other social development initiatives.
The police chief also encouraged members to strengthen unity within the association, sustain volunteerism and continue inspiring hope in police families across the country
