Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on wives of police officers to remain resilient, embrace lifelong learning and prioritise their physical and mental well-being while supporting their families and communities.
Represented by Mrs. Lilian Oghogho Musa at the 2026 Annual General Convention of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in Abuja, the First Lady commended the association for promoting unity, mutual support and empowerment among police families.
She praised the National President of POWA, Chief (Mrs.) Mutiat Oluwafunmilola Disu, for organising the convention and providing a platform for members to strengthen their bonds.
Speaking on the convention’s theme, “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” Tinubu said the topic reflects the realities confronting many Nigerian women.
She observed that wives of police officers shoulder enormous responsibilities at home while supporting husbands whose duties often keep them away from their families.
According to her, their patience, sacrifices and encouragement provide the stability that enables police officers to serve the nation effectively.
The First Lady, however, stressed the need to pay greater attention to the health and mental well-being of women, describing such support as essential to sustaining strong families.
She encouraged participants to maximise the convention by learning from one another, developing new skills, building lasting relationships and creating opportunities that would improve the lives of their families and communities.
“When a woman is empowered, the benefits reach far beyond her home,” she said.
Tinubu congratulated the leadership of POWA for successfully organising the convention before formally declared the 2026 Annual General Convention open.
