The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command to the health, wellbeing and operational readiness of officers with the inspection of an ongoing medical screening exercise for personnel at the Metro Area Command in Abuja.
The inspection, conducted on Thursday, May 8, 2026, formed part of a broader health initiative introduced by the Command to monitor and improve the physical and mental wellbeing of officers serving within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Command, the medical screening exercise commenced on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Metro Area Command as a pilot phase and will subsequently be extended to all Area Commands and Divisions under the FCT Police Command. The Commissioner of Police disclosed that the exercise became necessary due to the physical and emotional demands associated with policing the nation’s capital, and further stated that the medical screening exercise would be continuous.
CP Sanusi explained that the programme is designed as a continuous health assessment initiative aimed at monitoring the health status of officers and men, providing professional medical advice and ensuring timely intervention where necessary.
He assured personnel that the exercise was not punitive and emphasized that all medical results would remain confidential in line with professional medical ethics. He added that officers would receive individual counseling and guidance on managing their health conditions effectively.
The Command also disclosed that, with the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, arrangements have been made for psychological counseling, physical exercise sessions and follow-up medical care for officers requiring additional attention after the screening.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its resolve to prioritize the welfare, fitness and mental wellbeing of personnel in order to enhance effective policing and public safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
