The Nigerian Navy has recorded another breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East, following the arrest of a suspected terrorist collaborator during an intelligence-driven operation in the Lake Chad region.
The suspect, identified as Baba Saidu Abdullahi, was apprehended on June 1, 2026, after personnel of Naval Base Lake Chad (NBLC) tracked his movements using a tactical drone during an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, naval operatives observed the suspect emerging from an area where terrorist elements had earlier been sighted. Continuous aerial monitoring reportedly revealed interactions between the suspect and armed terrorists before he departed the location.
The Navy said the suspect was monitored in real time as he moved from the Dumba axis towards the vicinity of Charlie Company, 196 Amphibious Battalion, where troops successfully intercepted and arrested him.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Abdullahi frequently travelled between Dumba and Baga Town and allegedly maintained regular contact with terrorist elements operating in the area. Initial findings also suggested that he played a role in providing logistical support to the terrorists by procuring and transporting essential supplies.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of personal belongings and other materials considered relevant to ongoing investigations.
Following initial interrogation, the suspect was handed over to the appropriate military authorities for further investigation and necessary action in line with established procedures.
The Nigerian Navy noted that the operation highlights the growing importance of intelligence, surveillance and technology-driven capabilities in strengthening situational awareness and supporting counter-terrorism efforts across the Lake Chad region.
Reaffirming its commitment to the fight against insurgency, the Navy stated that it would continue to support joint military operations under Operation HADIN KAI, deploying available assets and capabilities to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement while contributing to the restoration of peace and security in the North-East.
The latest arrest underscored the military’s sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and their support structures in the region.
