The National Youth Service Corps (National Youth Service Corps) on Tuesday held its 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Workshop in Abuja, with a renewed focus on strengthening camp administration, inter-agency collaboration, and effective corps management ahead of the forthcoming orientation exercise.
The workshop, held at Bolton White Hotel and Apartments, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, brought together top management of the scheme, state coordinators, camp directors, representatives of corps-producing institutions, and key stakeholders across security and supporting agencies.
Representatives of major security agencies were also in attendance. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, was represented by CP Abayomi Shogunle, while Brigadier General B. Jubril represented the Chief of Army Staff. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant agencies also participated, alongside representatives of corps-producing institutions, underscoring strong inter-agency collaboration in support of NYSC operations nationwide.
In his welcome address, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Nura Umar, described the workshop as a strategic platform for reviewing previous orientation exercises, identifying operational gaps, and strengthening planning and coordination ahead of the new service year.
He welcomed the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General O.O. Nafi, commending his leadership and commitment to repositioning the scheme for greater efficiency and national impact, while congratulating management and staff on the scheme’s 53rd anniversary.
Declaring the workshop open, the Director General appreciated the contributions of security agencies and stakeholders, noting that effective collaboration remains essential to ensuring safe, disciplined, and well-coordinated orientation camps across the country.
He emphasized the need for improved planning, accountability, and cost-effective management in response to the increasing corps population and evolving operational demands.
The DG also stressed the importance of enhanced security vigilance, public health preparedness, and strict adherence to safety protocols in all orientation camps, directing state coordinators and camp officials to strengthen engagement with relevant security and health authorities.
He warned against unethical conduct among camp officials, insisting on discipline, professionalism, and accountability as key requirements for effective camp administration.
Highlighting the theme of the workshop, “Strengthening the Orientation Course to Advance National Priorities Amid Contemporary Challenges,” he noted that the programme remained central to instilling discipline, civic responsibility, and national consciousness among corps members.
The highlight of the event was the reading and adoption of the 2026 Batch B Pre-Orientation Workshop proceedings, marking the formal conclusion of the opening ceremony.
The workshop concluded with a call for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure a more efficient and impactful orientation exercise nationwide.
