The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in its nationwide offensive against drug trafficking networks, intercepting large consignments of opioids concealed in building materials in Taraba State and arresting multiple suspects including a 75-year-old man in Ebonyi State and four female drug dealers across Edo, Imo, Kano, and Gombe States.
According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, operatives acting on credible intelligence on Saturday, 6 June 2026, intercepted a truck loaded with building materials en route from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo in Taraba State. A detailed search at Nukkai Timber Shade led to the discovery of a concealed drug cache beneath the cargo, resulting in the arrest of 22-year-old Buhari Abdullahi.
Recovered substances include 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine, 4,500 tablets of rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based syrup.
In a separate operation in Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 75-year-old suspect, Okebe Samuel, at Okposi for allegedly dealing in 300 grams of skunk packaged for retail distribution.
In Imo State, officers raided a drug hotspot in Umulolo, Orlu, arresting 32-year-old Chioma Okeke with 8 kilograms of skunk.
Similarly, in Edo State, a coordinated sweep in Benin City led to the arrest of four suspects, including three women, with various quantities of illicit substances including skunk, Loud, and methamphetamine.
In Kano State, operatives arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan in Madobi with 38 kilograms of skunk, while in Gombe State, Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi was intercepted with 15,000 capsules of tramadol near Tumfure.
The agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign also continued across schools in multiple states, reinforcing its prevention-focused strategy.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers across the affected commands for their sustained vigilance and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks regardless of age, gender, or concealment methods.
