The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered consignments of high-potency illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos, while also intercepting a cache of military-grade ammunition in Kaduna State as part of its ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and related crimes.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, the illicit drug consignments, comprising three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, were discovered carefully hidden inside water purifier machines at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38, following the recovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms from their residence in the Gonin Gora area on Sunday, May 24.
On the same day, officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was found in possession of 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition reportedly being transported to Katsina State. The suspect and the ammunition were subsequently handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and action.
In a separate operation in Niger State, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered on Wednesday, May 27. A suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was later arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
Similarly, in Enugu State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle with registration number JAY-158-YF heading to Taraba State on Thursday, May 28. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam. A suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Beyond enforcement operations, the Agency intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign across the country. During the week, NDLEA officers conducted awareness programmes for students, teachers and community members at Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St. Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State, among others.
Commending officers and personnel of the Kaduna, Niger and Enugu State Commands, as well as the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised their commitment to reducing drug supply while sustaining drug demand reduction efforts through public sensitisation campaigns. He urged operatives across the country to remain vigilant and intensify the fight against illicit drugs and related criminal activities.
