The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Adamu Abdullahi, has convened the Command’s end-of-the-month strategic conference, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
The meeting, held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Minna, brought together Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to review operational strategies and address emerging security challenges.
During the session, the CP relayed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, stressing the need for officers to uphold ethical standards, demonstrate discipline, and maintain zero tolerance for corruption. He charged officers to carry out their duties in line with established laws while remaining responsive to citizens in distress.
Abdullahi cautioned against acts of incivility and called for strict supervision of personnel at all levels. He underscored that discipline remains the foundation of effective policing, urging DPOs to consistently guide and monitor their officers to ensure professionalism in investigations and operations.
He further reminded officers of the legal principle of presumption of innocence, emphasizing that suspects must be treated fairly and granted the right to defend themselves in courts of competent jurisdiction. The CP warned against unlawful detention, noting that suspects must not be held beyond constitutionally approved time limits except with a valid court order.
Addressing operational priorities, the Commissioner encouraged officers to establish clear performance benchmarks and adopt proactive measures in tackling crime within their jurisdictions. He clarified that the Police are not responsible for determining land ownership, advised that such disputes should be resolved through civil litigation.
However, he noted that criminal aspects related to land matters such as forgery, trespass, and malicious damage remain within the investigative purview of the Police.
The CP also reiterated the ban on the proliferation of tactical teams, announced that a structured Violent Crime Response Unit has been established, guided by standard operating procedures and specialized training to enhance efficiency and align with the vision of the Inspector-General.
The conference concluded with a renewed call for accountability, professionalism, and respect for citizens’ rights in policing activities across Niger State.
