Nigeria and Germany are set to strengthen their longstanding diplomatic and economic ties as the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, hosts Germany’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann David Wadephul, for high-level bilateral consultations in Abuja on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the meeting is aimed at reviewing existing bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation between both countries.
The ministry said the consultations would assess progress in implementing existing agreements while focusing on expanding economic and commercial partnerships, attracting greater German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, and enhancing collaboration in renewable energy, green industrialisation, vocational education, science, technology and innovation.
The statement noted that Nigeria and Germany have maintained a strong partnership over several decades, built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and a common commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability and sustainable development.
Germany remains one of Nigeria’s key strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation spanning trade and investment, climate action, technical assistance, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation and security.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Germany in areas of shared interest for the mutual benefit of both countries, expressing optimism that the visit would further consolidate the existing friendship and create new opportunities for inclusive economic growth, regional stability and shared prosperity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed confidence that the visit would reinforce the strong relations between Nigeria and Germany while reaffirming both nations’ commitment to addressing global challenges through dialogue, partnership and constructive engagement.
