The Northern Training Coordinator for the Chartered Institute of Warehousing and Material Management, and Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management, Dr.Aliyu Ilias has said that there is need for efficient policy direction on Supply Chain management in other to improve on service delivery towards economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria,
Aliyu stated this in his keynote address at the combined 2017 induction of Chartered Institute of Warehousing and Material Management and Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management in Abuja on Friday.
He said professionals needed to work on the gap between the manufacturing companies and the end users, through efficient management ,developed strategy for the logistics in health ,emergency, transportation, information and humanitarian service He said there was a need for seamless and sustainable way of tracking and tracing of consignment till the final destination.
“There must be a deliberate policy frame work to enhance logistic management in Nigeria both in Private and public.”
“Good infrastructure for supply chain management will increase competitiveness and in turn create room for economic development in Nigeria” Aliyu said
“Nigeria is ranked in the fourth percentile of World bank logistics performance index, the delay in local and international shipment and poor custom clearance process , trade and transport related issue need to be urgently work on with supply chain management policy, there must be human capacity development through standard and accreditation ” He added.
In his welcome address the Registrar of the Institute, Mr.Samuel Masebinu represented by Mr.Samuel Owoseni said Supply chain management (SCM) remain the oversight of materials, information, and finances as they move in a process from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. Supply chain management involves coordinating and integrating these flows both within and among companies. He said that the ultimate goal of any effective supply chain management system is to reduce inventory, with the assumption that products are available when needed.
The Registrar used the occasion to commend the inductees for trusting the Institute with the task of shaping them, in character and in learning, and for making themselves available for the enormous task ahead of generations.
“Once again, Chairman of the occasions , our Barrister, esteemed Inductees, Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you very much for being so generous with your time and for listening to me.”He added.
Barr. Lukman Hassan while administering professional pledge on the inductees,lectured the inductees on the act that promulgated Oat taking, he enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the Institute with strict adherence to best global practice and professionalism.
A lecture with the theme Logistics management in Nigeria:Way Forward was delivered by Simon Enajedu. of USAID Shipping Department .
