The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Poland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across key sectors including security, trade, technology, innovation, and institutional capacity development.
This was disclosed when the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, received the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Krzysztof Gawkowski, alongside the Polish Ambassador, Michal Cygan, and other members of his delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Minister described the visit as a milestone in Nigeria–Poland relations, noting that it signals the beginning of a more strategic and mutually beneficial partnership between both countries. He stressed Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with international partners in addressing shared challenges and unlocking new opportunities for development.
According to him, “This visit is not just another diplomatic engagement; it lays the foundation for a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and Poland.”
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in border management, internal security systems, cybersecurity, technology transfer, innovation, and institutional reforms. The Minister also expressed Nigeria’s interest in leveraging Poland’s expertise in digitalisation and advanced technical systems to enhance national capacity.
He further welcomed plans for an official visit to Poland, expressed optimism that such engagement would deepen cooperation between government institutions and the private sector in both countries.
Highlighting ongoing economic reforms in Nigeria, the Minister noted government efforts such as exchange rate unification, inflation control measures, and the removal of fuel subsidies, which he said are aimed at improving investor confidence and stabilising the economy.
“We look forward to formalising our cooperation through official agreements that will translate into practical solutions benefiting both nations,” he added.
In his remarks, the Polish Deputy Prime Minister commended Nigeria’s growing economic and technological potential, describing the country as a strategic partner for long-term cooperation. He reaffirmed Poland’s readiness to support Nigeria through expertise in innovation, infrastructure development, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
He also extended an invitation to the Nigerian Interior Minister to visit Poland, expressing confidence that continued engagement would open new avenues for collaboration between both governments and private sector stakeholders.
The meeting marks a renewed step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Poland, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable partnership and mutual development.
