The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members against engaging in political campaigns, rallies, or activities that may associate them with any political party.
General Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, where he reminded them that the scheme remains an apolitical organisation committed to national unity and integration.
The NYSC boss stressed that Corps Members must avoid mixing the service programme with partisan politics, urging them to focus on the objectives of the scheme.
“Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don’t mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics,” he advised.
He also urged the Corps Members to exercise caution in their use of social media, warned against cyber-related offences including cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and cyber fraud.
According to him, anyone found guilty of such offences would face the consequences of their actions, added that responsible digital behaviour is essential for their future.
General Nafiu further encouraged the Corps Members to remain disciplined, financially prudent, and focused on building a successful future.
He advised them to develop a savings culture, embrace entrepreneurship, and take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a pathway to self-reliance.
The Director-General also highlighted the importance of financial literacy, encouraging Corps Members to explore investment opportunities in the capital market.
He said the NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme was introduced to equip young graduates with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions and secure their financial future.
“It is a programme designed to empower you with financial knowledge and investment capacity,” Nafiu stated.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christianah Salmwang, disclosed that the orientation camp registered 9,955 Corps Members, including those undergoing their orientation course in other states.
She commended the Corps Members for demonstrating enthusiasm, discipline, and readiness to serve the nation.
