Operation FANSAN YAMMA Repels Terrorists’ Attack in Zamfara, Rescues Nine Abductees

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several terrorists, rescuing nine abducted civilians and thwarting an attempted infiltration of the military facility.

The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2026, when the terrorists reportedly attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to infiltrate the military base. However, vigilant troops detected the movement early and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, troops immediately reinforced the area and launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists.

The military disclosed that during the pursuit, troops rescued nine residents who had been abducted by the terrorists while fleeing the community.

The operation, however, came at a cost as one Army officer and one Police officer lost their lives during the fierce exchange of gunfire.

Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated by air for advanced medical treatment. The military confirmed that both personnel are in stable condition.

Troops have since secured the area and commenced exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties while ensuring the safety of residents in the affected communities.

The Army described the failed attack as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, noting that sustained military offensives have continued to weaken their operational capability and morale.

The statement also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed during the incident, clarifying that only one Army officer and one Police officer paid the supreme sacrifice.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling criminal networks until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
