The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has completed the payment of outstanding arrears arising from the ₦32,000 pension increment approved for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
In a statement issued on April 27, 2026, the agency disclosed that a total of ₦1,734,592,000 was disbursed to 54,206 eligible pensioners, marking the full settlement of the one-month balance of the increment.
The increment was approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) and took effect from July 29, 2024.
Breakdown of the payments shown that under the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD), 25,804 pensioners received ₦825,728,000, completing all 13 months of arrears owed to beneficiaries in that category. Similarly, 28,402 pensioners under the Tertiary Education and Health Pension Department (TEHPD) were paid ₦908,864,000, bringing their total arrears to 13 months.
PTAD explained that the arrears covered the period from August 2024 to August 2025. The agency had earlier settled 12 months of the increment in phases between December 2024 and December 2025, with the latest payment covering the outstanding balance.
With the disbursement, PTAD confirmed that all obligations related to the ₦32,000 pension increment have now been fully settled.
The Directorate, however, clarified that certain categories of pensioners are excluded from the increment. These included retirees from organisations such as Peoples Bank of Nigeria, Assurance Bank, Nigeria Reinsurance, NICON Insurance, NITEL/MTEL, Petroleum Training Institute, and PHCN, who had previously benefited from pension increases of 10.66 percent and 12.95 percent, in line with the NSIWC circular issued in September 2024.
Reaffirming its mandate, PTAD stated that it remained committed to ensuring the welfare and dignity of pensioners through transparent and efficient pension administration, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
