The Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has strongly condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, described the attack as barbaric, unacceptable and a threat to peace in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Senator Moro expressed deep concern over the gruesome killing of Muhammad and his friend, Yakubu Isah, who were reportedly ambushed and murdered by armed men while returning from a peace meeting in Benue State on Saturday.
The lawmaker stressed that every human life is sacred, insisting that no individual has the moral or constitutional right to unlawfully take the life of another, especially innocent and unarmed citizens.
He called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.
According to Moro, only a comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators would serve as justice for the victims and help restore public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
The Senate Minority Leader also commended Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, for condemning the killings. However, he maintained that the tragic incident could have been prevented if the state government had been more proactive in fulfilling its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the people.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to address the worsening security challenges confronting Benue State and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
Senator Moro extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the late Ardo Risku Muhammad and Yakubu Isah, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls and comfort for their loved ones during this difficult time.
