The Democratic Front (TDF) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of resorting to “spurious claims” against President Bola Tinubu following what it described as the collapse of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by TDF Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group dismissed allegations by ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, that President Tinubu was behind the creation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken the opposition.
According to the group, the accusation was “disgraceful and embarrassing,” especially after the opposition had repeatedly accused the President of plotting to establish a one-party state.
TDF said the ADC leadership had continued to spread what it described as false narratives aimed at gaining public sympathy, adding that Nigerians were already tired of what it called the opposition’s “antics.”
The group argued that recent developments within the opposition camp had vindicated President Tinubu, insisting that the collapse of the coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar exposed deep divisions among opposition politicians.
TDF further alleged that internal disagreements and the alleged dominance of key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, weakened internal democracy within the ADC and frustrated efforts to build a united opposition front.
It also referenced what it called the “ill-fated Ibadan Accord,” an alleged understanding among opposition parties to present a consensus presidential candidate in 2027, saying the arrangement had now collapsed.
The group maintained that President Tinubu had no involvement in the crisis rocking the ADC and urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations against the President.
According to TDF, opposition parties should focus on strengthening their internal structures rather than making accusations against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement described the opposition coalition as a gathering of “selfish politicians” allegedly more interested in power and political benefits than national development.
