Tinubu appoints Sylvester Ndidi as Acting Controller-General of Nigerian Correctional Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of Nigerian Correctional Service (), effective December 15, 2024.

The appointment followed the retirement of Haliru Nababa, who served as Controller-General since May 2021. Nababa was celebrated in a colorful pulling-out ceremony on Friday, marking the end of his distinguished 34-year career in the service.

Ndidi, a native of Oguta, Imo State, and a former Deputy Controller-General overseeing Training and Staff Development, is a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) national honor.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, praised Nababa’s visionary leadership, highlighting his achievements in inmate reform, staff capacity building, and infrastructural development. Nababa, in his valedictory speech, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and credited his success to the support of his management team and stakeholders.
