The Niger State Police Command has rescued Cornelius Damulak, a 36-year-old student of Veritas University, Abuja, who managed to escape from his abductors after being held captive for over a week.
Damulak was found wandering along the Pogo-Paiko highway on February 14, 2025, by a police patrol team from Chanchaga Division. Upon questioning, he revealed that he was kidnapped from his residence in Bwari, Abuja, on February 6 at about 5 a.m. by suspected kidnappers who moved him through different forests.
According to him, after days in captivity, he found an opportunity to flee on February 13 and trekked for hours before arrived at the highway, where he was spotted and rescued by the police.
The police immediately took him to a hospital for medical attention while efforts are ongoing to contact his family.
In a separate development, police operatives from Maitumbi Division intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting stolen livestock from Sarkin-Pawa to Minna on February 11, 2025.
Acting on intelligence, officers set up a stop-and-search operation along the Gwada-Maitumbi road, where they intercepted a Canter lorry (Reg. No. XR 915 MUS) loaded with 11 cows and 34 sheep.
Five suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, including:
Mohammed Ibrahim of Kuchi, Munya
Ibrahim Yakubu of Stadium Road, Minna
The truck driver and two of his assistants
During interrogation, Mohammed Ibrahim confessed to stealing the livestock from a resident named Saleh in his village and attempting to sell them in Minna.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to identify the rightful owner of the recovered animals.
The Niger State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activity to security agencies.
