FANSAN YAMMA Troops Foil Attacks, Neutralise Terrorist, Arrest Eight

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational successes in Zamfara State, foiling terrorist attacks, neutralising a terrorist, arresting eight suspected bandits, and disrupting criminal networks across several communities.

The successes were disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, who said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region.

According to Danja, troops of Sector 2 conducting a fighting patrol to Birnin Tsaba and Tsanu villages in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area on June 5 engaged terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village.

During the encounter, troops overpowered the terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one of them and recovering seven motorcycles believed to have been used for criminal activities.

On June 6, troops responded swiftly to a terrorist attack at Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The terrorists fled into surrounding bushes after coming under military pressure.

Preliminary findings revealed that the attackers had stolen personal belongings from residents before the arrival of troops. Danja noted that the incident underscored the growing desperation of terrorist elements whose logistics and operational capabilities have continued to suffer setbacks due to sustained military offensives.

The same day, troops were deployed following reports of an attack on commuters along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi Road. Investigations revealed that terrorists had ambushed two civilian vehicles between Jabanda and Dauran villages in Zurmi Local Government Area.

Troops secured the area, evacuated injured victims for medical attention, and commenced efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists and rescue any abducted passengers.

In another operation on June 6, troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol to Tudun Wada and Dan Gulbi communities in Maru Local Government Area arrested eight suspected bandits at Tudun Wada.

Items recovered from the suspects included seven motorcycles, communication equipment, mobile phones, power banks, military-style uniforms, and other materials linked to criminal activities. Troops also destroyed a structure allegedly being used by the suspects as an operational base.

Meanwhile, intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of a suspected recipient of recently intercepted ammunition at Tupa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area on June 5. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting ongoing investigations.

Danja reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in the region.
