Five governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have passed a vote of no confidence in the State Chairman of the party, Dr. (Chief) Moses Alake Adeyemo, and called for his immediate resignation over alleged bias and mismanagement of party affairs.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held by the aspirants on Monday, June 1, 2026, where they reviewed the state of the party and recent activities leading up to the APC governorship primary election.
The aspirants accused Adeyemo of compromising internal democracy by allegedly directing local government party chairmen to work for the victory of a particular aspirant ahead of the primary election. According to them, such action amounted to a gross abuse of office and violated the neutrality expected of a party chairman.
They further alleged that the chairman prematurely declared an aspirant as the party’s governorship candidate before the National Working Committee (NWC) officially released the primary election results, a move they said undermined due process and eroded confidence in the party’s internal mechanisms.
The aspirants also faulted Adeyemo for granting media interviews after a Sallah meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and allegedly announcing a candidate, described the action as an attempt to impose a preferred aspirant on the party.
They expressed concern over what they described as the chairman’s public endorsement of an aspirant, including raising the individual’s hand as the party’s flagbearer, which they said further demonstrated partisanship and bias.
Drawing lessons from the APC’s electoral setbacks in Oyo State in 2019 and 2023, the aspirants warned against actions capable of deepening divisions within the party. They argued that imposition, injustice and lack of inclusiveness contributed to previous defeats and should not be allowed to recur.
The group also criticized the chairman for allegedly failing to convene meetings of aspirants during critical stages of the election process and for the reported inadequacy of election materials during the governorship primaries, which they claimed disrupted voting and disenfranchised delegates.
In addition, they expressed alarm over what they described as the growing exodus of APC members to other political parties, attributing the development to dissatisfaction among loyal party members who feel sidelined and neglected.
Consequently, the aspirants called on the APC National Working Committee and other relevant stakeholders to intervene and ensure the immediate resignation of the state chairman in the interest of party unity, transparency and justice.
The communiqué was signed by former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan; Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao; Barrister Akeem Agbaje; Dr. Ololade Usman Bakare; and Prince Musbau Asatola Asanike.
The aspirants reaffirmed their commitment to the APC and pledged to work towards a united and stronger party, stressing that such a goal could only be achieved through fair leadership and adherence to due process.
