GOV SANI-BELLO SET UP COMMITTEE ON BIDA MARKET INFERNO

Niger State Governor, Alh Abubakar Sani-Bello on Wednesday set up a 13 man committee to look into the causes of the recent fire outbreak at the Etsu Musa market in Bida.

Inaugurating the committee during the weekly state executive council, the governor directed the committee to unravelled the remote cause of the fire outbreak and to identify the list of victims affected.

“We are all aware of the unfortunate incidence that happened in Bida market and this calls for an urgent need to set up a committee to investigate the cause of the fire.”

“There is need to determine the remote cause of the fire and also to determine the damage done so far, identify list of victims affected and shops affected by fire, provide the amount of loss incurred and recommend possible temporal site for the market pending the reconstruction of the market. ”

The Governor who tasked on the committee to find out possible ways of averting future occurrance also called on them not to limit their investigation to the affected market but to also extend it to other markets in the state.

“It is important we find possible ways to prevent future occurrence and we should not limit ourselves to the existing market.We should also extend to all markets in Bida and all over the state.

“We have to be proactive and we should not wait until we have this kind of incedence before we take action and now that this has happened, there is need to cover all markets in the state.” He added.

He called on the committee to give the assignment the required attention and has also assured them that the state government will work with the report as a template to other markets in the state.

The committee is chaired by Hon. Shehu Bawa (Special Adviser on Local Government Affairs) and Alh Musa Ibrahim Rogo (Director, Council Affairs) will serve as the secretary of the committee.

Other members of the committee includes Hon. Bako Alfa, (Member Bida l) Hon. Mohammad Bagudu, (Chairman, Bida L.G) Q.S Danladi Musa, (Permanent Secretary, Land and Housing) Ahmad Ibrahim Inga, (Director General, NSEMA) Alh Mohammed Baba Kudu, (Director, Niger State Fire Service) Alh Aliyu Gimba, ( Director Admin, General Service, Office of the SSG, Alh Rabiu Ibrahim, ( Director Inspectorate, Ministry for Local Government) Alh Danlami Umar, (Dirctor, Chieftancy, Ministry of Local Government) Alh Mohammed Usman Umar (Chairman, Etsu Musa market ).
