The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging sports as a vehicle for national unity, inclusion, and socio-economic development.
The Minister made this known on Wednesday while receiving the leadership of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) on a courtesy visit to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the Ministry of Interior remains focused on its core mandate of ensuring internal security, safeguarding citizenship integrity, and strengthening institutional efficiency. He noted that strategic collaboration with credible organisations like LGAN plays a vital role in advancing broader governance objectives.
He commended the association for its consistent efforts in promoting golf among Nigerian women, describing its contributions as instrumental in fostering discipline, leadership, and international representation.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing reforms across agencies under the Ministry, particularly improvements in passport administration and the deployment of modern e-gate systems at international airports. According to him, these initiatives are aimed at enhancing service delivery and restoring public confidence in government institutions.
Earlier, President of LGAN, Lami Onayi Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Minister for granting the audience despite his tight schedule. She reiterated the association’s commitment to expanding participation in golf among women and providing platforms for capacity building and international exposure.
Ahmed also commended the Minister’s leadership and reform agenda, noting that ongoing modernization efforts within the Ministry align with global best practices and Nigeria’s development aspirations.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the delegation of the Ministry’s continued support for initiatives that empower women and promote sports development nationwide. He urged members of the association to remain ambassadors of Nigeria, using sports as a tool to foster unity, national pride, and economic growth.
The visit concluded with both parties expressing commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing shared national goals.
