Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an isolated terrorist infiltration attack on their position at Charlie 13 location in Monguno, Borno State.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the incident occurred in the late hours of April 12, 2026, when troops came under attack from terrorists. The troops engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle, eventually forcing them to retreat while maintaining control of the location.
However, tragedy struck shortly after the encounter. The Commanding Officer, who was said to have moved towards the troops’ position to personally assess the situation, ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, resulting in his death alongside six other soldiers.
The statement described the late Commanding Officer as a courageous leader whose actions exemplified the highest standards of military service. It noted that his decision to advance toward the frontline, even after the immediate threat had been contained, underscored his commitment to duty and the welfare of his troops.
Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss, paying tribute to the fallen personnel for their bravery and sacrifice in service to the nation.
“Their sacrifice will forever remain etched in the memory of the Armed Forces and the grateful nation they served,” the statement added.
