The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has fixed Monday, May 11, 2026, for its annual policy meeting on admissions, where stakeholders will decide the minimum cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, who said the meeting would take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, located in the Institute and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.
Benjamin explained that the policy meeting is a critical gathering in Nigeria’s education calendar, as it brings together key stakeholders to determine the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scores acceptable for admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
He added that beyond setting cut-off marks, participants would also deliberate on admission guidelines and policy frameworks that will guide tertiary institutions throughout the admission exercise.
“The Board’s annual policy meeting on admissions is a crucial platform where stakeholders decide minimum tolerable UTME marks, admission guidelines, and other policies for tertiary institutions,” the statement noted.
According to him, the meeting is expected to formally set the tone for the 2026/2027 admission process and reinforce the need for strict compliance with established guidelines by all institutions.
The Minister of Education is expected to unveil key policy directions at the event, while goodwill messages will be delivered by major stakeholders in the education sector.
Participants at the meeting will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers, as well as representatives of regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission, National Commission for Colleges of Education, and the National Board for Technical Education.
The board also disclosed that the event will feature the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards, aimed at encouraging adherence to admission policies and promoting excellence among institutions.
With anticipation building ahead of the meeting, candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions are expected to await the outcome, which will determine the baseline requirements for the 2026/2027 admission cycle.
