The Journalists International Forum For Migration(JIFORM) has congratulated the Nigerians in Diaspora Commision (NiDCOM) over its one year anniversary.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, Ajibola Abayomi, the President/Executive Director of JIFORM described the agency as a mission accomplished given the numerous interventions and tremendous achievements it had recorded so far.
The JIFORM President said the door of the media foundation was open to further collaboration on diaspora matters with NiDCOM and others to halt irregulation migration through continued advocacy.
“NiDCOM today is a shining example under Honorable Abike Dabiri-Erewa. The achievements recorded are direct success stories of the good intentions of theadministration of President Muhammad Buhari on passion for the plight of Nigerians abroad. Certainly Dabiri-Erewa and her team have made the nation proud.
“It would surprise many Nigerians that NiDCOM evenas we speak is yet to have a befitting structure of its own as an office yet ithas established so many connections with Nigerians abroad by protecting their interests. Hundreds of challenged and stranded Nigerians had been rescued atdifferent times which JIFORM can confirm. Many of these sets of Nigerians were stranded and had no means to return home but when we pleaded for assistance, NiDCOM was there to do the needful.
“We have also noted the interesting dimension of luring foreign direct investment to Nigeria by encouraging Nigerians abroad toinvest at home. We had witnessed excellent coordination and relationship with Nigerianforeigh missions and embassies that is helping to brighten the image ofNigeria.
“JIFORM is proud of this unique establishment despitepaucity of funds, it has delivered beyond expectation. No wonder experiencecounts, Dabiri-Erewa had been chairman of the diaspora committee of House ofReps for eight out of the twelve years she spent at the federal legislativehouse.
“All we can say is that there is a need to keep the flagflying and sustain the good tempo. NiDCOM is just outstanding as if it had beenin existence for over 10 years. Thanks to President Muhammadu Buhari for theinitiative and thank you NiDCOM for serving the nation well. Congratulations to the team.”
