President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement in a major cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening economic coordination and service delivery.
According to a memo signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation,George Akume and conveyed through presidential channels, the appointment formed part of ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reinvigorate his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The memo stated that outgoing ministers are to conclude handover processes on or before April 23, 2026.
The shake-up was coming amid growing concerns over Edun’s health and reports of broader security concerns, although the presidency said the changes are primarily intended to enhance cohesion in governance and deliver more impactful economic outcomes.
Also affected by the changes is Dr. Muttaqha Darma, who has been appointed Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.
Akume said the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), adding that the process of cabinet restructuring remains ongoing. He also conveyed the President’s appreciation to Edun and other affected officials for their service to the nation.
