A tragic incident occurred in the Ogwanja area of Sapele, Delta State, on New Year’s Day when Daniel Onyejekwe, a 30-year-old man, allegedly stabbed his neighbor, Christian, to death during a dispute over rice sharing.
According to police reports, the argument began during the distribution of rice along Boyo Road. The disagreement between the two men quickly escalated into a physical altercation. In the heat of the moment, Onyejekwe reportedly picked up a bottle and stabbed Christian multiple times. Despite being rushed to the hospital by local vigilantes, Christian was pronounced dead on arrival.
SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and stated that investigations into the incident were ongoing. “The suspect is in custody, and the investigation will be completed before further legal action is taken,” Edafe said.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary, and police are working to ensure justice is served.
The suspect is expected to face prosecution after the investigation is concluded.
